 Course Description
This course is Anna's second course with Tring Learning Centre. As I attended her first one, I can vouch for them as good fun, very varied, enjoyably challenging - and great for confidence bulding. (Heather)

2.July Anna may update the entry below in the near future to accommodate returning learners. The course will be very appropriate for new learners, and you will be made very welcome from the start.

Who is the course aimed at?
This course is designed for people who have an interest in theatre making. You may or may not have taken part in drama sessions before, but you will be willing to try new things and to join in with practical activities. The Drama class is open to everyone who has a passion for theatre, regardless of experience. The sessions are about having fun, building confidence, meeting new people and developing new skills in theatre making.

This is a course which will encourage creative input from the participants.
You will be given the opportunity to explore a range of theatre skills and craft, including:
The basic skills of drama
Making a simple performance.
Devising theatre and Improvisation skills
Developing ideas
Basic stage craft
Rehearsing scripts
Different styles of theatre

This course is being led by Anna Pyle, an experienced actress and musician, who has worked as company manager, drama teacher and workshop leader locally and nationally. find out more at

 Course Outline
We will begin with building a relaxed group dynamic through fun drama activities and games which boost confidence.
Time will then be spent on learning the basic skills of drama and stage craft, focusing on those skills which are needed to create and perform a simple drama piece.
The group will then progress on to learning how to devise theatre through improvisation and role-play building towards in class performances of the work created.
We will explore different styles of theatre presentation and the work of a variety of theatre practionners. There will be an opportunity to explore practically and through discussion a selection of scripts.

Week by Week plan

Weeks 1 and 2 – Drama Games, the basic skills of drama – mime, tableaux and role-play. Basic stagecraft – entrances and exits, the placing of actors on stage, contacting the audience, use of voice on stage. Creating a simple performance.

Weeks 3 and 4 – Devising theatre from a range of stimulus material e.g. photographs, poetry, news articles. The skills of improvisation – working in groups, listening and sharing ideas, blocking, refining, theatre presentation techniques e.g. split scene and the transition to performance.

Weeks 5 and 6 – Script work – plot events and character objectives within a script, blocking scripts on stage, finding and developing a character, interaction on stage, refining and further rehearsal and performance.

Weeks 7 and 8 – Selection and rehearsal of final pieces for a low key performance to an invited audience.

Week 9 If agreed by the group: low key performance to an invited audience - no pressure to do so. For more details please contact Heather
